HR 218 provided the right to carry a concealed weapon to many retired law enforcement professionals. The requirements include retiring "in good standing", a photo ID from the agency from which the person retired, and completion of an annual firearms qualification.

Many agencies, for economic or other reasons, have decided against providing their retired Officers with an opportunity to meet the qualification requirement. Other agencies have decided against providing retired Officers with a suitable photo ID. While we can't do anything regarding the lack of a suitable photo ID, we can assist qualified retired Officers to be able to qualify annually.

The Indiana Retired Law Enforcement Officer Training Program is a corporation made up of retired Federal, State, and Local law enforcement Officers who feel strongly that those who earned the right to carry should be provided with an opportunity to do so.

We have certified Range Officers at conveniently located ranges throughout the State of Indiana, and for a reasonable fee we can provide Indiana's finest the opportunity to exercise their right to carry a concealed weapon.

While the State of Indiana does issue "Personal Protection Permits", these are only valid in the State of Indiana. When a retired Officer meets the requirements, HR 218 authorization, on the other hand, is valid in all 50 states.

With regard to liability, our program does not address this issue- the liability for any action taken on the part of a retired law enforcement Officer who uses a weapon, is the responsibility of the individual Officer- not the agency from which they retired - not the organization at which they qualify- it is their individual responsibility. Retired Officers who wish to purchase personal liability insurance may do so at their own discretion. We do not endorse or discourage these purchases, and we are not in any way involved in the purchase or sale of liability insurance.
